The totally private 6.2 Acres (2.5 Hectares) grounds are full of fruit trees (figs, peaches, lemons, quince fruit, etc), olive trees and old cork oaks. This Alentejo rental cottage and grounds stand on a hill with great views over the hills and the flatlands of north Alentejo. From the house you can hike for miles, up the hill from the house farther into the natural park.

The Apartadura lake is a short drive from the house and its crystal clear waters make it a perfect destination for summer water activities. The natural spring and fountain just a few steps from the house serves as a fresh, sparkling bathing pool.

The Unesco Heritage Town of Marvao is about 15 miles form Montinho da Fonte and well worth the visit – standing tall on a rocky hill, the fortress town remain almost untouched throughout the centuries.

Down the hill from Marvao the excavations continue on the ancient roman town of Ammaya, where the work started in 1997 has only uncovered 2% of what was an important Roman city.

Another world heritage town, Caceres, Spain, is a worthwhile day trip, about 1 1/2 hours from the house. Other towns worth visiting in the area are Castelo de Vide across the natural park, Extremoz to the south (30 miles) and Evora, about two hours away.
